ELECTION DAY IS ON ITS WAY!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

The Excitement is mounting as we are getting closer to November 4th. An important date and surely a historic one to boot. It all started when many people said they wanted to be president. through many tough and difficult caucuses and primaries. The Republicans were the first to decide thier party’s nomination, who was John McCain(R). Then it was left up to one of the most painful Democratic pick in the history of GOPs. The final led to a Barack Obama(D) win. With these two were picked, they then toured to country trying to wrap up some votes. Then they had to choose thier running mate. The Democratic VP is Joe Biden(D), and the Republican VP is Sarah Palin(R). There soon after the national conventions were held. Now the Presidential hopefuls are out runing around to debates, interviews, etc. And Now it is up to you. Here is a mini poll for the area just to see who likes who in the area.

The Farmers Market is a great hit around the area. We have had total strangers come in to the market. This is an excitable new way of commerce in the area. Thanks to those of you who have contributed, both as a consumer and producer. We can make things happen here. And we’ve found another way to show it!

Elevator Works Toward a Bright Future

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The Equity Co op Elevator was founded in 1910 with a capital investment of $3000 by a few area farmers. These people had a dream and motivation to make a reality come true. That dream and reality of that elevator are still in existence.

The Equity elevator is now expanding and growing under the leadership of John Rick, the elevator’s manager. John, the Board, and the employees are working hard and diligently to improve the elevator for the town and for it’s patrons. The other day, I had the chance to speak with John about the elevator expansion.

In 2007, the co op tore down three large, concrete tanks to make room for the larger, steel tanks which hold about an extra 10,500 bushels for storage. On the south side of the elevator the new construction consist of a grain dryer to enhance the customer service. They are also constructing three new steel bins with a capacity of 200,000 bushels of grain. “The added storage will be a great benefit to our patrons in the future.”John said.

The Board consists of farmers in the Sheyenne - Oberon area.

Dan Birkeland - President

Neal Rud - Vice President

Doug Schmid - Secretary

Kent Myhre - Member

Todd Buehler - Member

Stuart Johnson - Member

Greg Rue - Member

We commend these people for their hard work and dedication.

The Elevator is a full service elevator dedicated to it’s patrons. If you are interested, they have set up a website, www.sheyenneequity.com. This has information on commodity prices and all of their services. You can also contact them via e-mail, coop218@gondtc.com.

This elevator has taken a chance and has proven once again that when we all work together a lot can be accomplished. As John Rick says, “We plan to be here for a long time.” Now THAT is some North Dakota spirit!

Preparing for the 4th!

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

April 11 was moving night for many active life styles in Sheyenne over at the School. At the school, about 25 people total showed up to move tables, chairs, desks, T.V.s, computers,***** etc., into the shop. When the shop was full we started to move desks into the class rooms. After working hard for about an hour, the group went to eat pizza and hamburgers, supplied by the Sheyenne Horizons.

At the April 18 community meeting we will decide what to do with the items in storage and set a cleaning date for the adopted rooms.

*****IF THERE IS ANYONE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT YOU KNOW OF THAT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PAY FOR A TV, COMPUTER, ETC. AND WANTS ONE. YOU CAN CONTACT COLLIN (996-4721) OR PATTI (996-3531) IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE IN NEED OF A TV OR COMPUTER, PLEASE CALL AT A REASONABLE TIME IN THE EVENING. PLEASE HELP US IN OUR FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY!

Sheyenne Farmers’ Market?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Now that Spring is blowing in, I’ve been thinking about gardens and fresh produce. Is anyone else interested in getting a local farmers’ market started this summer/fall? With our town’s location on Hwy. 281, we have prime real estate for such a venture. Plus, it would help generate income and exposure for local growers/gardeners/crafters and would provide good, fresh produce for area folks who aren’t able to grow their own.

New Video added to You Tube.

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Connor Joseph has recently added a new video. It includes more of the Sheyenne school.
